"Austria must become fit for war," demanded Armed Forces General Bruno Hofbauer at the beginning of the week. The same can be heard from Germany. Where will all this lead? Do we really need an arms build-up in words and deeds or is it better to have talks and peace?

"The NATO states must be prepared for a major war against Russia!" says Admiral Rob Bauer, Chairman of the NATO Military Committee. The most extensive NATO maneuver in decades begins in February: 90,000 soldiers will take part in the "Steadfast Defender" exercise. "The Austrian Armed Forces must now also make a 180-degree turnaround," said Major General Hofbauer at the presentation of the 2024 risk picture: "Our army must be made ready for war."
