On the Run! Calf “Konrad” Got Lost on the Roof
You name it, we’ve seen it! Our fire departments are truly prepared for every possible—and impossible—situation. The members of the Hopfgarten Volunteer Fire Department in the Brixental Valley in Tyrol proved just that early Saturday evening. A calf had wandered onto a roof and needed to be rescued!
Kronen Zeitung als bevorzugte Google-Quelle hinzufügen “Small calf on roof”—when this dispatch message reached the members of the Hopfgarten Volunteer Fire Department in the Brixental Valley around 5:30 p.m. on Saturday, some of them probably thought it was a prank at first!
Escaped from a nearby pasture
But it wasn’t. “Once on the scene, it turned out that the call was accurate,” the fire department posted on its social media channels. The calf, named “Konrad,” had bolted from a pasture behind the house and ended up on the slippery metal roof of a residential building after stepping over a small ledge.
“Konrad” was trapped
The animal then slid down the sloping roof and finally came to a stop on the flat part of the roof. The calf couldn’t make it back up—and on the other side, there was a drop of several meters. “Konrad” was trapped!
About 20 members of the Hopfgarten Volunteer Fire Department then set to work to safely retrieve the calf from the roof. Using a rope and a stepladder, the firefighters carefully made their way to the unusual rescue site. Eventually, they managed to rescue the calf from the roof and bring it to safety unharmed.
After about an hour, the animal rescue operation was successfully completed.
