The International Ski and Snowboard Federation (FIS) plans to host World Championships nearly every year starting in 2032. As decided by the FIS Council during a two-day meeting in Thun, the championships will be held in all non-Olympic years.

Currently, Alpine and Nordic World Championships are held only in odd-numbered years. According to the FIS, there are also plans to hold additional World Championships as early as 2028.

Feasibility Study Successful
“Following the presentation of a preliminary feasibility study that focused on the sporting value, calendar planning, and commercial and media rights, the FIS Council agreed on the concept of increasing the frequency of FIS World Championships,” according to a statement.

The next Alpine World Championships will take place in Crans-Montana, Switzerland, in 2027, while Nordic skiers will compete for World Championship medals in Falun, Sweden. Snowboarders and freestylers are scheduled to compete in Montafon, Vorarlberg, and in Kühtai, Tyrol.
