Alfred Tatar has died at the age of 62. The legendary TV analyst and soccer player succumbed to the insidious neurological disease ALS. But what exactly is amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, the condition that paralyzes all the muscles in the body?
The disease amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) became widely known through astrophysicist Stephen Hawking, who, against all odds, battled the neurological condition for over 50 years and ultimately passed away in 2018 at the age of 76. In 2023, the partner of Hollywood star Sandra Bullock,U.S. photographer Bryan Randall (57), also lost his three-year battle with the disease. ALS is one of the most severe diseases affecting humans; intensive research is being conducted worldwide to understand its causes and mechanisms and to find potential treatments.
