AS Monaco and coach Adi Hütter have found their way back to success in the Champions League. After the recent lack of success, they surprised everyone with a strong performance against Aston Villa and ultimately a deserved 1:0 win. 

AS Monaco kept their chances of progressing directly to the last 16 of the Champions League alive at the start of the 7th round of the league phase. The team of Vorarlberg coach Adi Hütter fought their way to a 1:0 win against Aston Villa in front of their own fans on Tuesday and moved up to ninth place in the table, level on points with the seventh-placed English side (13 each). The top eight teams after eight rounds avoid the round of 16 in the "premier class".

The Monegasques scored an early goal, even without neo-striker Mika Biereth, who is not yet eligible to play internationally. After a corner from Lamine Camara, Aston Villa goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez was able to keep out a header from Thilo Kehrer, but was powerless to stop Wilfried Singo's header from close range (8'). The English side then tried everything, but the only goal remained.

It was Monaco's fourth win in their seventh game and an important victory as they ended a run of four games without a win and two defeats.
