It could have ended badly. A 32-year-old Feldkirchen woman became aware of a fire on the ground floor of her home on Tuesday evening at around 10.30 pm. She immediately called her mother to escape from the house together.

The neighbor then alerted the fire department. A total of three fire departments rushed to help and battled the flames, which they were able to contain fairly quickly.

Dog in the house
There was a dog in the house at the time of the fire. The emergency services were able to free it. "The house is currently uninhabitable due to the risk of a filigree ceiling collapsing," said the police, describing the operation. The extent of the damage and the cause of the fire were initially unclear.

On Wednesday, officials from the Carinthian State Office of Criminal Investigation, the Feldkirchen police and the fire prevention department of the Carinthian State Fire Brigade Association as well as a representative of the Feldkirchen municipal building authority and a structural engineer came to investigate the cause of the fire.
The cause of the fire was determined to be an unattended open fire - a candle or tea light - in the vestibule area.

The statics of the building were checked again and no danger of collapse was found.
