Several police operations after Krampus parade in Tyrol

It's not unusual for Krampus events to get pretty heated. In the Tyrolean Oberland, however, things went far too far after a parade. Among other things, there were riots and a mass brawl. Several people were injured and numerous charges were filed.

Last Saturday, a large Krampus event took place in Zams (Landeck district) with 25 participating groups. On Wednesday, the police reported that there were several incidents "after the parade" in the "vicinity of the event location".

These included assaults, physical altercations and various administrative violations.

More details gradually emerged: Several brawls - including one involving around 50 people - resulted in eight injuries, said Landeck district police commander Christoph Patigler. However, no one was seriously injured.

A total of 67 charges were filed and five people were arrested. There was a "heated and disinhibited atmosphere", said the officer.

Repeated reports until 2.30 a.m.
It started at 7.30 pm, after the end of the official event. Until 2.30 a.m., there were "constant reports" of brawls, said Landeck's top police officer. Around 30 police officers tried to deal with the reports one after the other. A lot of alcohol was also involved in the "very unruly situation" - which had taken place in the vicinity of the venue.

Corresponding reports were made to the Innsbruck public prosecutor's office and the relevant administrative authorities. For example, for violations of the Pyrotechnics Act and the Youth Protection Act, the investigators concluded.
