Driver killed instantly after head-on crash in tunnel

The fire department tried everything: using hydraulic rescue equipment, they freed a driver from his vehicle in Ebensee (Upper Austria) on Tuesday evening. Unfortunately, the emergency doctor was only able to determine that the 30-year-old died after a head-on crash in a tunnel. The black series of accidents thus continued.

The dramatic series on the roads continues: After three Upper Austrians had already lost their lives in accidents on Tuesday night (the "Krone" reported), another driver died on Tuesday evening.

Lost control
Two cars, each occupied by one driver, were involved in the latest fatal accident in the Bartelkreuz Tunnel in Ebensee. For reasons as yet unknown, a 30-year-old from Altmünster suddenly hit the kerb and then probably drove into the oncoming lane and collided with the car of a 43-year-old. "This unfortunate incident resulted in a serious accident with one person trapped," reported the Ebensee fire department after their operation.

Tunnel chain closed
The 30-year-old was trapped in the wreckage of his car as a result of the head-on crash. The Florianis used hydraulic rescue equipment to free him. Unfortunately, the emergency doctor was only able to determine his death.

The 43-year-old driver was taken to the Salzkammergutklinikum in Bad Ischl by the ambulance with emergency medical assistance. The entire Traunsee tunnel chain was closed to traffic for the duration of the operation.
