Man (24) suffocated
Tragic death: How safe are parking heaters?
The death of a 24-year-old man from Carinthia, who wanted to leave his car at the weekend after a Krampus run and spend the night in it - and then suffocated from the exhaust fumes of the parking heater- is tragic. How sensible - and dangerous - are such installations? The "Krone" asked.
The shock runs deep: even three days after the tragic death of Christian (24) - a sociable young farmer from St. Salvator (St. Veit district, Carinthia) - numerous candles are still burning at the scene of the accident and someone has brought flowers. The despair is great, and the questions asked by the bereaved are even more pressing: Why Christian of all people? Could his death have been prevented?
There has also been a lot of discussion about the terrible case on social media over the past few days: "It's actually very exemplary that the young man wanted to leave his car after having a drink," writes one user on Facebook: "Not everyone does that!"
However, the parking heater he had installed himself on the day of his death, which was supposed to keep him warm, proved to be Christian's undoing: he breathed in the exhaust fumes and suffocated. How could that be?
