Serial thief pulls the emergency brake and flees the train

An initially unknown thief was after the money of sleeping train passengers. The perpetrator stole several thousand euros in the provinces of Tyrol, Salzburg and Styria. When he was caught by a train attendant one day, he pulled the emergency brake and fled. The Romanian suspect has now been arrested.

Mysterious thefts occurred repeatedly in the three federal states in October. The approach of the initially unknown perpetrator was always the same. While his victims slept on the train, he snatched their purses. The total loss: around 3500 euros.

Caught red-handed by the conductor
The perpetrator was caught red-handed by the train conductor during one of these robberies - near Wörgl in Tyrol. "The man then applied the emergency brake. After the train stopped, he fled on foot," according to the police. The train conductor took up the chase and the suspect threw a stone at him.

The suspect was arrested in the Salzburg city area.

Speaking of the suspect: he is a 41-year-old Romanian. He was initially able to go into hiding. But now - after intensive investigations - his handcuffs clicked in the city of Salzburg.

Taken to prison
The suspected thief was taken to Salzburg prison. A whole series of charges will follow. Further investigations are underway.
