Mountaineer (56) stumbled and fell to his death

Mountain drama on Sunday in Abtenau: a 56-year-old from Upper Austria was on a hike with friends and fell. A companion tried to administer first aid. But all help came too late. 

The mountaineer was out with a group of friends. In the early afternoon, the five mountaineers set off on their descent from Tagweide towards First. The accident took its course at an altitude of around 1800 meters above sea level: the 56-year-old was the last in the group, presumably tripped over his hiking poles and fell around 30 meters over steep, rocky terrain. 

A companion climbed down to the victim but was unable to help. The emergency doctor pronounced the climber dead.
