Duo of lads caught speeding illegally

If you're driving illegally, you'd better not run a red light. Officers in Villach therefore caught two youngsters.

Shortly before midnight on Thursday, a police patrol on Ossiacherzeile in Villach observed a car ignoring a red light at the junction with Trattengasse and driving north. "They immediately took up the pursuit with blue lights and tried to get the driver of the car to stop," said the provincial police directorate, describing the incident.

Accident during escape attempt
However, the driver could not be stopped and first turned right into Seebacher Allee and then into Kasernengasse. "In doing so, he lost control of the vehicle, collided slightly with the fence of the Rohrkaserne and came to a standstill," said the officers.

Although the driver managed to escape on foot, his passenger - a 14-year-old from the Feldkirchen district - and another boy (13) from Villach were apprehended by police officers. "Nobody was injured in the collision. There was only minor damage to property," summarized the police.

Several charges
The previously unknown driver is facing several charges: "The driver committed several administrative offenses while driving the car. The license plates attached to the car were stolen." Who owns the car involved and the search for the fugitive are the subject of further criminal investigations.
