The price of electricity has eased significantly again after the war-related spikes in 2022 and 2023. However, many households in Germany are still on expensive tariffs and therefore pay significantly more than necessary every year. In the best-case scenario, they currently pay up to 630 euros. Even if Austrians' willingness to switch has recently increased again, there is still plenty of room for improvement. For example, according to E-Control, only 1.2 percent of Austrian households switched electricity provider in the first quarter. This means that many private households are still paying more for electricity than necessary. In particular, those who have switched providers or tariffs following the record prices should definitely check their contract.
