“Weapon sighted at window”: Operation in Vienna!

Operation on Tuesday in the Rochusmarkt area. A weapon was reportedly spotted in the building of a Volksbank branch.

Police operation in Vienna-Landstraße: Several police officers are said to have stormed a house in Rasumofskygasse on Tuesday. According to the police, a weapon had been spotted at a window. The operation was still ongoing early Tuesday afternoon. The area around the building was cordoned off.

Several emergency services, including officers from WEGA, were on site at around 1.30 pm. The Vienna police confirmed the operation - they were alerted to the scene because of a suspected weapon at a window.

According to a witness, it was probably a pistol. "Several WEGA police officers came to the headquarters of the post office on Rochusmarkt to take a look at the building opposite," reported a young eyewitness (see photo below). 

The area around the building and the bank branch was cordoned off. 

The background to the operation was initially unclear. But the all-clear was given at around 3.30 pm. Curious: the suspected weapon was a toy pistol.
