Hallstatt wants to use cell phone data to count tourists

A camera at the entrance to the vacation hotspot in the Salzkammergut measures 3000 to 4000 movements a day. But it is unclear exactly how many visitors flock to the tranquil town. A project aims to change that. The "Krone" knows exactly how this is supposed to work.

It's not just the summer temperatures that are currently making the people of Hallstatt sweat, the masses of tourists are also becoming an increasing burden for many locals. But nobody knows exactly how many visitors actually flock to the tranquil Salzkammergut community every day, even though there are many figures in circulation.
