Drunk driver caused an accident and could not be found

The police in Hofkirchen im Mühlkreis were in for quite a surprise when searching for a fugitive who had been involved in an accident. The wanted man had helped a friend who had seriously injured his arm. However, that was not the only surprise.

At around 7.45 p.m. on Saturday, an unknown driver crashed into a power pole in the Hofkirchen im Mühlkreis district. The police found various car parts at the scene and carried out house searches. However, there was initially no trace of the car or driver.

The car was eventually found to be badly damaged some distance away - but the driver was again not at the scene. The driver could then be contacted by telephone via a family member. The driver, a 19-year-old local man, stated that he was taking a friend to hospital.

Serious arm injury
During a personal interview, however, the whole truth came to light: the 19-year-old had his 17-year-old friend in the passenger seat during the accident. He had left his hand hanging out of the car with the side window open during the crash and was seriously injured as a result. Not surprisingly, the 19-year-old was drunk, with a blood alcohol level of 1.26 per mille.
