German man crashes 100 meters while paragliding

A training flight with his paraglider ended on Thursday morning for a German (56) with serious injuries in hospital. The man lost control of his paraglider in Obertilliach in East Tyrol shortly after take-off and crashed around 100 meters.

The 56-year-old took off on a training flight from a paragliding launch site in Obertilliach shortly before 11 a.m. on Thursday. "For unknown reasons, the man lost control of the paraglider shortly after take-off, pulled the rescue parachute and crashed around 100 meters," according to the police.

Flown to hospital
The German remained seriously injured on the ground until an uninvolved passer-by, who happened to be nearby, administered first aid and set the rescue chain in motion. After initial treatment at the scene of the accident, the man was flown to the Lienz district hospital in the "ARA-3" rescue helicopter.
