A total of 265 million euros is being invested in the tunnel construction sites. Five tunnels have been under renovation for ten months. Half of it is done and from Friday, 5 a.m., the construction site will be paused and the tunnels will be open to traffic on both sides.

30 percent less energy consumption
Asfinag civil engineer Hanspeter Treichl is in charge of the construction site and has been working on it for five years: according to him, a general refurbishment is due every 35 years. Only 80 million euros are spent on operating and safety technology alone.
