Hit the guard rail: Car ends up on the roof

Spectacular accident early on Tuesday morning on the main road in Krems in Carinthia: A female driver hit a guard rail with her car - whereupon the car skidded sideways across the road and landed on its roof.

It is still completely unclear why the 22-year-old lost control on the Katschbergstraße early in the morning and veered off the road to the right. What is certain, however, is that the car hit the beveled guardrail, causing the car to tip sideways and skid along the road for around 80 meters.

Freed from the wreck despite injuries
The car came to rest on its roof on the left-hand side of the road. Despite her injuries, the driver from the district of Spittal an der Drau managed to free herself from the wreckage - and was later taken to hospital by the ambulance service. The men from the Eisentratten volunteer fire department were responsible for recovering the vehicle.

The fire departments also had to respond to a serious traffic accident on the Südautobahn highway, shortly after the Villach junction, at almost the same time on Tuesday morning. In the direction of Klagenfurt, there was reportedly a violent crash between a car and a truck for unknown reasons.

"After the arrival of our technical platoon, together with the Wernberg fire brigade, it was recognized that a vehicle was damaged, was in the overtaking lane and a person was trapped in the vehicle," said Fire Chief Stefan Regenfelder, platoon commander of the Villach main fire station. The emergency services then removed the driver and passenger doors completely and freed the woman from the wreckage. The driver was taken to Villach Regional Hospital with indeterminate injuries.
