German mother stabbed daughter (4) to death

A terrible tragedy has taken place in the German town of Burghausen near the Upper Austrian border: a mother is said to have seriously injured her four-year-old daughter with a knife on Wednesday morning. 

The child suffered stabs and cuts to her neck and face, according to police reports. The mother was arrested. 

Girl was operated on immediately
Relatives who were in the apartment had alerted the emergency services, a police spokesman said. The little girl's life was initially in danger. She was taken to hospital and operated on immediately. At the request of the public prosecutor's office, the woman was to be brought before the investigating judge at the Traunstein district court on Wednesday. The judge will have to decide whether the suspect should be placed in temporary custody or remanded in custody.

The police did not initially comment on the exact circumstances of the crime. "The background and motive for the crime are now being investigated by the criminal police, which is why no statements can yet be made in this regard," explained the officials.
