Discovered at a landfill site
Cat back home after months of wandering
Nokedli" was missing for six months. Now the velvet paw has turned up unharmed in Lower Austria. She was found more than 30 kilometers from home in a landfill site.
An emotional reunion that no one expected recently took place at the Krems animal shelter. A man from St. Pölten was able to take his beloved cat back into his arms - after around six months in which its fate was completely uncertain.
The velvet paw had simply disappeared one day. Without a trace! An intensive search was made for her for many weeks, but without success. When hopes had already sunk to a minimum, an employee of the waste disposal company Brantner from Krems called the animal rescue service. A cat had been spotted wandering around the company premises for a long time.
Had it been in the garbage truck?
The animal rescue team was finally able to catch the four-legged friend. When the chip was read, the trail initially led abroad, as the cat had been registered in Hungary. But it hadn't "traveled" that far after all. In the meantime, her owner had moved with her to St. Pölten, where "Nokedli" (Hungarian for dumpling) could possibly have traveled with a garbage truck to Krems, around 35 kilometers away.
The owner could hardly believe his luck when he found out that his darling was still alive and was currently recovering from his odyssey at the animal shelter. From there, the St. Pölten resident was able to pick up the cat again. "The reunion was very warm", the animal shelter said happily afterwards.
The case also shows the importance of chipping. "Without registration, we would probably never have been able to find the cat's owner," says the animal shelter staff.
