Vettel emotional: “Would like to pay tribute to him”

Former world champion Sebastian Vettel wants to commemorate Ayrton Senna, who died 30 years ago, with a special event at the Formula 1 race in Imola, Italy. 

On May 19, the 36-year-old German will drive a McLaren MP4/8 on the race track, which Senna once drove during his time at McLaren before moving to Williams. Vettel made the announcement in a video message on Instagram.

"Ayrton Senna was not only a driver I held in high esteem because he was one of the best racing drivers in history, but also a man of great compassion," said Vettel: "It's been 30 years since his accident and I want to pay my tribute to Ayrton."
