Worker fell nine meters through the roof

Serious accident on Thursday afternoon in the Innviertel region. A young worker climbed onto the roof of an old shed to install a PV system. However, he broke through the roof shingles and fell nine meters to the hard concrete floor. The 19-year-old was seriously injured.

After a 19-year-old and his 17-year-old work colleague, both from the district of Grieskirchen, had completed the electrical installation work for a PV system on the ground in Utzenaich on Thursday, the 19-year-old climbed an aluminum ladder onto the saddle roof of a shed built in 1901 at around 2:25 p.m. to carry out measurements there.

Colleague called for help
When he climbed over the roof ridge to the corresponding side of the roof, he broke through the roof shingles and the roof battens underneath between the rafters and fell about nine meters to the concrete floor of the barn. He remained there seriously injured. The 17-year-old, who had been in the barn at the time of the fall, noticed the fall and ran out of the shed to get help.

Rescue helicopter deployed
He twisted his ankle and suffered undetermined injuries. He was taken to Ried Hospital. After receiving emergency first aid, the 19-year-old was flown by helicopter to Linz University Hospital.
