No equal treatment
Complaints about job allocation at the Ministry of the Interior
175 applicants for public jobs contacted the Equal Treatment Commission between 2006 and 2023. Most of the complaints concerned the Ministry of the Interior. There is talk of obstacles based on ideology, for example.
A total of 124 people contacted the Equal Treatment Commission between 2006 and 2023 in connection with the Ministry of the Interior. That is 70 percent of all cases involving applications for public sector jobs. The high number of complaints is due to the size of the department and the many hierarchical levels, according to the Ministry of the Interior.
Half a million euros in compensation payments
According to "profil" research, 65 police officers were actually found to have been discriminated against. They were found to have had the wrong party membership or none at all. In ten further cases, such discrimination could not be completely ruled out.
Every second complaint was therefore upheld. The losing candidates concerned were awarded a total of half a million euros in compensation payments between 2011 and 2023.
The Equal Treatment Commission (GBK) assists the labor and social courts as well as the civil courts. Applications can be submitted by the person who feels discriminated against, but also by the Equal Treatment Ombudsperson, the works council, an interest group or a lawyer.
