Despite weapons ban
Another night-time knife attack in Favoriten
On Monday night, there was another brutal knife attack in Vienna-Favoriten despite the new weapons ban. A stranger simply attacked two victims and demanded their cell phones. When they refused, he simply stabbed them.
The police were called to Quellenstraße at around 11.10 p.m. after one of the victims was seriously injured. On arrival, the emergency services immediately started to administer first aid. However, there was already no trace of the stranger. When questioned, one of the victims said that they had only wanted to buy cigarettes from the vending machine and were suddenly threatened by the suspect.
Victim seriously injured on the stomach
When they refused to hand over their cell phones, the suspect pulled out a knife and stabbed one of the victims. The stranger then fled. The Vienna emergency services provided emergency medical care to the injured man and took him to hospital with abdominal injuries.
There was no danger to life. The investigation into the unidentified man has been in full swing ever since. A jacket belonging to the victim in the vicinity of the crime scene was found and recovered.
Weapons ban law since March
The Weapons Prohibition Act has been in force at Vienna's Reumannplatz since the end of March. Anyone caught with a prohibited weapon must pay a fine of up to 1000 euros. For repeat offenders, the amount can rise to up to 4600 euros. For the time being, the ban is limited until June 30, 2024.
