Bc Vienna
“Bad luck with injuries has taken us apart”
The basketball players of BC Vienna will have to watch the quarter-final duels starting on Saturday. For club manager Petar Stazic, the many injuries were the decisive factor. After finishing in ninth place and missing out on the play-offs, the team spent an evening together.
BC Vienna brought the season to a close with a dinner in a restaurant in the city center. "We wanted to have a good time again," said club manager Petar Stazic, whose team had missed out on the quarter-finals early as the reigning runners-up.
"I can't blame anyone, the character is great," said Stazic to the team and coach Hrvoje Radanovic. "We had a lot of bad luck with injuries and never had a full squad. That was absurd and took us apart." Captain Bogic Vujosevic (heel) was always missing. "The absence of 'Bogi' in particular really hurt us." Top scorer Davor Konjevic was one of the few players who played almost everything.
How are they dealing with the pandemic season, which got off to a great start, including the preparations? "We will analyze everything in depth and want to keep the core of Austrian players at all costs," emphasizes Stazic. "But one thing is clear: due to the many absences, the youngsters have been given more playing time and have been able to develop very well." Including his 16-year-old, 2.02 meter tall nephew Aron son of co-trainer Stjepan Stazic.
And who will be champions? The previous dominator Klosterneuburg? "It's hard to say. The league is extremely evenly matched."
SUPERLIGA, quarter-finals, Saturday, 5.30 pm: Klosterneuburg - Kapfenberg, Wels - Graz. - Sunday, 5.30 pm: Gmunden - Oberwart, Traiskirchen - St. Pölten.
