3:1 victory in Graz
Bronze is within striking distance for Sokol’s women
Record champions Sokol/Post got off to a successful start in the match for third place - the Viennese women won 3:1 in the AVL best-of-3 series in Graz. "Our goal is clearly third place," said club boss Karl Hanzl, "that would put us in the CEV Cup, which would be a great way to end the season."
Sokol's volleyball players won 3:1 (25:27, 25:17, 25:22, 25:20) in Murstadt and therefore have the opportunity to seal the deal next Saturday. Lucia Miksikova (23), Anilise Fitzi (19) and Lia Berger (18) were the best scorers for the Viennese side. "Although we were behind after the first set, we played with focus from the start and fought for every point. My team played well!", said coach Zuzana Pecha-Tlstovicova. "We know that we have another difficult task ahead of us in the second game. We will give everything to win the bronze medal."
This is also entirely in the spirit of club boss and long-term functionary Karl Hanzl. "Our goal is clearly third place. That would put us in the CEV Cup, the second-highest European Cup, next season. We are also already planning how we can be even more successful in the future." The performance of the club men was also pleasing, as they won the first leg for seventh place in Amstetten 3:1. Captain Florian Weikert: "It was the difficult match we expected and very evenly matched, especially at the beginning. Fortunately, we had the staying power and the better bench."
