Oberwart and Kapfenberg in the quarterfinals
The Oberwart Gunners and the Kapfenberg Bulls secured the last two tickets for the quarter-finals of the Basketball Superliga on Sunday. The team from Burgenland managed to advance in the penultimate qualifying round with a 92:64 derby win against BBC Nord Dragonz in Eisenstadt. The Styrians beat their last remaining rivals BC Vienna 80:72 on the road.
The two teams with the same number of points will determine their quarter-final opponents in a direct duel next Saturday in Oberwart. The loser will face Klosterneuburg Dukes, the winner of the placement round, in the knockout round, while the winner will take on the second-placed team.
There will be a three-way battle for second place in the final round between the Swans Gmunden, Traiskirchen Lions and Flyers Wels, who each have 26 points. Both teams from Upper Austria celebrated victories on Sunday. Gmunden had no problems at home against St. Pölten 108:71, while Wels came from behind at the break to win 82:76 at UBSC Graz.
