Run-off election 2024
Barbara Schweitl toppled the local emperor of Puch
SPÖ candidate wins by a surprisingly clear margin in the Tennengau village. Long-term head of the village Helmut Klose steps down after 25 years.
Joy and sorrow go hand in hand - as was the case on Sunday evening at the "Kirchenwirt" in Puch. In the main hall, neo-mayor Barbara Schweitl (SPÖ) celebrated her brilliant election victory. Two rooms away, incumbent Helmut Klose (ÖVP) and his men had to digest the surprisingly clear defeat. 46 percent of all votes in the Tennengau town went to the long-term local leader, 54 percent to his challenger. Klose himself did not want to speak to the "Krone". However, he has already announced his resignation to party colleagues.
Neo-mayor quits her job
The neo-mayor was all the more talkative: "The time was ripe for change, people have had enough of the mayor's previous style." The first meeting of the new municipal council, including Barbara Schweitl's inauguration, will take place on April 9.
The ÖVP has lost its absolute majority. "I want to work together and will be a full-time mayor. I'm quitting my job," says the election winner
