Warehouse fire in Klagenfurt challenges fire brigades
A fire in Klagenfurt called on the fire departments on Friday. A fire broke out in the warehouse of a company. The extinguishing work proved to be difficult and dangerous.
At 6.30 a.m. on Friday, the Klagenfurt professional fire department received an alert that there was a fire at a company in August-Jaksch-Straße. A local resident noticed the smoke near the warehouse and called the fire department.
Small explosions again and again
"As cleaning agents are stored in the warehouse, the fire keeps flaring up. We now have to tear out the doors to get better access and to be able to clear out all the stuff and extinguish it properly," says Helmut Unterluggauer, head of operations at the Klagenfurt professional fire department, adding: "The ingredients in the cleaning agents cause small explosions time and again."
Robert Ratheiser from the professional fire department: "The fire is now under control. It's a windshield cleaner that also contains ethanol. Although it shouldn't have a high percentage and therefore be dangerous, caution is still advised."
Several fire departments were deployed.
