Anna Gandler celebrates her best World Cup result

Biathlete Anna Gandler has set her best World Cup result with a sixth place in the sprint at the start of the season finale in Canmore.

In dream weather in Canada, Gandler made a mistake in the standing stage on her way to a podium place on Thursday, and the 23-year-old Tyrolean finished 27.7 seconds behind the victorious Italian Lisa Vittozzi. With the third-best time, Gandler was only 19.1 seconds off her first World Cup podium.

Switzerland's Lena Häcki-Groß finished third, with France's Lou Jeanmonnot (+5.5 sec.) in second place. Norway's Ingrid Landmark Tandrevold took the small bullet in the Sprint World Cup despite finishing 17th. While Gandler made it to the Flower Ceremony as she did last time in the sprint in Soldier Hollow, Lisa Hauser had to settle for 34th place (+1:42.0 min.) after three penalties. Lea Rothschopf (2/+2:09.7) finished in 45th place.

The pursuit of the top 60 is on the program on Saturday, before the season is concluded with the two mass start races on Sunday.
