"Life is beautiful! Every day is a gift to be celebrated!" is Christie Brinkley's motto on her Instagram account. And the 70-year-old is not letting her cancer diagnosis get her down, even though it must have been a huge shock at first.

In an Instagram post, she revealed that she had been diagnosed with skin cancer and had to undergo surgery after doctors discovered basal cell carcinoma on her face.

Brinkley also shared graphic photos of the wound after the cancer was removed and encouraged her fans to regularly check her body for any abnormalities. 

"Stitched up perfectly"
Despite the diagnosis and the procedure, the supermodel has maintained her positive attitude towards life. She wrote full of confidence: "The good news for me is that we caught the basal cell carcinoma early. And I had great doctors who removed the cancer and stitched me up perfectly like a Dior haute couture."

She added: "The good news for you is that all of this can be avoided if you're careful with your sun protection!"

Just a "tiny dot"
Brinkley received the diagnosis when she accompanied one of her daughters to a routine check-up. There, she asked a doctor to examine a "tiny dot" on her face.

Basal cell carcinoma (BCC) is a type of non-melanocytic skin cancer that often appears as a crust that bleeds.

Brinkley's Instagram post ended with a plea to her fans to get regular check-ups and protect themselves from the sun.

Three times on the "Swimsuit" cover
Christie Brinkley is an American actress, model and entrepreneur who became one of the most famous and successful models in the world in the 1970s and 1980s. She was born on February 2, 1954 in Monroe, Michigan.

Her breakthrough as a model came when she graced the cover of the "Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Edition" three times in a row (1979, 1980 and 1981).

In addition to her modeling career, Brinkley has also appeared in films and television shows, including "The Flashy Four on the Road" (1983) and "The Flashy Four in Las Vegas" (1997). She is also known as an environmental activist and philanthropist.
