Former ski star at the start
“Wild sows” plunge down the mountain in Lofer
Daring skiers strap on their short skis for the 37th time today, Saturday. Their goal: to be the fastest in the race for the Loferer Wildsau!
The skis strapped on must be no longer than 66 centimetres! That's rule number one at the Loferer Wildsau race, which takes place for the 37th time today in Saalachtal from 4 pm. In the heavy spring snow, almost 60 daring "wild sows" plunge down from the Grubhörndl on their short firn skis.
Leitinger family duel
The mass start leads to the finish at the middle station - also due to a lack of snow. This year, former World Cup skier Roland Leitinger from St. Martin/Lofer will also be competing for victory and the coveted hiking trophy. Leitinger ended his active career just a few weeks ago, but will not miss the chance to take part in the Wildsaur Race. Also because the whole thing is practically a family affair.
Dad Willi organized the race for many years, back then still with a start in the wild, in the Loferer Steinberge. Then brother Gerald took over, who always competes for victory himself. So this year, the wild Loferer Firngleiter race is also a bit of a family duel...
