Germans report:
Bayern are already negotiating with coach Xabi Alonso
So now it's happening! According to a report on TV channel Sky, Bayern Munich have held initial talks with Bayer Leverkusen coach Xabi Alonso about a possible transfer in the summer.
The 42-year-old knows the club from his time as a player but, according to Monday's report, has not yet decided whether he will leave Leverkusen. In this case, however, Alonso would prefer FC Bayern to Liverpool FC, who are also said to be interested. Jürgen Klopp will retire as coach at the end of the season.
The German record champions are looking for a successor to Thomas Tuchel, who is set to leave at the end of the season. Under the direction of Alonso, Leverkusen lead the table ten match days before the end of the season with a ten-point lead over Bayern.
Transfer fee of up to 25 million euros
Alonso's contract at Leverkusen ends on June 30, 2026 and, according to Sky, FC Bayern would have to pay a transfer fee of between €15 million and €25 million if they were to sign Alonso after the current season. Accordingly, a written exit clause could come into effect in a year's time, which is said to be around 15 million euros.
