"Can be honest"
Pole vaulter speaks out after horror accident
Pole vaulter Margot Chevrier can laugh again! A few hours after her horror accident at the World Indoor Championships in Glasgow, the 24-year-old Frenchwoman reported from hospital via Instagram.
It was a horrific scene and a scream of pain that went through the hearts of everyone watching. Pole vaulter Chevrier started off, but couldn't get her body over the bar. She aborted the jump - but instead of landing on the mat, she landed on the cushion in the most unfortunate way imaginable. It soon became clear that the Frenchwoman had suffered a serious injury - she twisted her left foot badly when she landed.
She announced the diagnosis via Instagram on Monday: "Open fracture in the left ankle, plus a dislocation of the talus." In other words, a dislocation of the left talus. Chevrier has already undergone surgery in Scotland, where she had three screws inserted and also required a skin graft. She will have to undergo another operation in France.
"See you in Paris"
But the dream of the Olympics lives on. "We can be honest: The injury is severe, the body site is not the best choice and it will be a long road. But we have five months. See you in Paris," says Chevrier.
