Incurable disease

When hair was suddenly blown away by the wind

Around 180,000 people in Austria suffer from alopecia, or chronic hair loss. Two affected Carinthians - wig maker and model Janin Baumann and former "Krone" editor Martin Radinger - talk about their experiences with this currently incurable disease.

Janin Baumann has caused a stir with a large poster on her wig studio in Klagenfurt. It shows her as a model naked, hairless, with a wig in her mouth. This apparently upset some people, who filed a complaint with the Advertising Council. And they condemned the poster.

This poster had to be removed following a complaint to the Advertising Council.

Baumann takes this decision in stride, as she wants to use her self-portrait to draw attention to the disease alopecia, chronic hair loss, which affects her. Like an estimated 180,000 people of all ages in Austria. Like me, the writer of these lines. That's why I wanted to meet Janin to exchange ideas and experiences - a meeting of those affected.
