Numerous demands
“Abolish compulsory examinations for sex workers!”
The iBUS association, which looks after women and men in the industry, points out that conditions are still intolerable. To mark International Sex Workers' Rights Day, the institution is presenting demands to make their lives easier.
To mark International Sex Workers' Rights Day, iBUS (Innsbrucker Beratung und Unterstützung für Sexarbeiter*innen) is drawing attention to violence against women and especially violence against people in this sector. Seven women have already been murdered this year.
"Stigmatization, outdated moral concepts and a lack of sexual self-determination, which particularly affects women, as well as the associated control of female sexuality, also mean that sex work is still largely seen as reprehensible and vicious," explains Johanna Baumgartner from iBUS.
Here are the specific demands:
- Holistic sexuality education that informs people of all genders about their rights
- Comprehensive violence prevention measures
- Expansion of existing violence protection measures
- Increased funding for support facilities
- Enabling home visits
- Expansion of legal work opportunities
- Abolition of compulsory examinations
