After his horror crash in the Altenberg ice track on February 13, push athlete Sandro Michel has spoken out for the first time. Among other things, the Swiss athlete, whose life was in danger, posted a picture from the hospital: "To date, four operations have been necessary to ensure my survival and to patch me up to some extent."

"Two weeks and four operations later," Sandro Michel begins his emotional post. The last two weeks have not been easy for him. "After a serious accident in the ice channel in Altenberg, I spent a week and a half in intensive care in Dresden. I'm currently back in hospital in Switzerland."

Pusher Michel suffered serious injuries to his chest and pelvic area when his world-class pilot Michael Vogt crashed. The 210 kg sled with three crew members weighing a good hundred kilograms had slid uncontrollably from the uphill finish curve back into the track and hit the lying Michel, who had been thrown out, with full force.

Luck in misfortune
"To date, four operations have been necessary to ensure my survival and to patch me up to some extent. I think I was very lucky in my misfortune and can/must be happy to be able to write this post today," says Michel.
