Memorabilia belonging to British pop star Elton John (76) has fetched almost eight million dollars (the equivalent of 7.38 million euros) at an auction in New York. These included his grand piano and silver high boots that the musician wore at a concert.
They have the red letters "E" and "J" on the sides The boots had been estimated at between 5,000 and 10,000 dollars, but actually fetched a price of 94,500 US dollars (equivalent to 87,185.70 euros). A pair of sunglasses, one of Elton John's trademarks, sold for 22,680 dollars (the equivalent of 20,923.57 euros).
Here you can see a picture of the boots.
Several Versace T-shirts, decorative items and a portrait of John by the painter Julian Schnabel also went under the hammer. The collection also includes an ivory and gold-colored jumpsuit from the early 1970s, photographs by star photographer Helmut Newton and works by Andy Warhol and Keith Haring (see video above).
Residence sold
Most of the items came from the artist's luxurious residence in Atlanta, which was recently sold. Christie's auction in New York on Wednesday was the first of eight scheduled dates. The musician, who became famous for songs such as "I'm Still Standing" and "Rocket Man", played his last concert in 2023.
