Deindustrialization: Back to the 17th century!
Is industry leaving Europe? Its representatives are certainly threatening to do so if things don't change soon. Whether a "post-industrial society" would be desirable is doubtful. Author and scientist Christian Mähr explains the background to the spectre of deindustrialization.
A spectre is currently haunting Europe: the spectre of deindustrialization. Liberal economics professors, company spokespersons and bourgeois parties are uniting against it. The fear: "big" industry could withdraw from the countries of Europe. To where? To Asia, of course, although it no longer matters exactly to which part of the continent. Everywhere there - according to the European view - endless, industrious armies operate huge industrial conglomerates that produce everything from paper clips to large power plants.
