Traffic jam warning on Friday

Semester break begins in Vienna, Lower Austria and Vorarlberg

The distribution of the school news on Friday marks the start of the first season of this year's semester break for around 530,000 pupils in Vienna, Lower Austria and Vorarlberg. 

They have a week off and will then be replaced by children and young people in Tyrol, Salzburg, Carinthia and Burgenland. The third and final season will give pupils in Styria and Upper Austria another week off.

Warning of traffic jams
Traffic problems are therefore likely to occur on Vienna's city exits from Friday afternoon, and on Saturday the access roads to ski resorts will be particularly affected.

The idea behind staggering the semester break is to avoid congestion in tourist areas and on the roads. This means that roughly the same number of children and young people should have time off in all three weeks. The first semester break ends on February 11.
