Strikes at German airports: AUA’s advice

Flights are being canceled at many German airports on Thursday and this is also affecting travelers from Austria. Austrian Airlines (AUA) recommends checking the status of your flight.

The trade union Verdi has called on airport security staff to go on a day-long strike. Eleven airports are affected, including Frankfurt, Berlin, Stuttgart and Hamburg.

The strike will begin at most airports in the early hours of the morning and end at midnight. Connections between Germany and Austria are also affected.

1100 flights affected
According to estimates by the German airport association ADV, around 1100 flights will be canceled or delayed. Berlin, Hamburg and Stuttgart airports have canceled all departures, while Düsseldorf and Cologne are planning to keep some flights open.

In Frankfurt, AUA parent company Lufthansa intends to maintain the majority of its program, including long-haul flights.

In all cases, travelers are urged to check the status of their flights to avoid being stranded at the airport. The strikes in Germany were called by the union to push for higher wages.
