ÖFB Cup – First Round
LIVE NOW: SV Wienerberg vs. SK Rapid!
It may not have been a spectacular display of soccer artistry, but SK Rapid didn’t put a foot wrong in the opening match of the new season—the first round of the ÖFB Cup—and ultimately secured an easy 3-0 victory over third-division side SV Wienerberg!
Kronen Zeitung als bevorzugte Google-Quelle hinzufügen Rapid struggled quite a bit in the first half, but Adamsen, with a bit of luck, gave them a narrow lead just as the halftime whistle blew (45'). It was the new striker’s first goal in a competitive match.
Prior to that, the Hütteldorf side had been unable to create any clear-cut chances on the small artificial turf training field, with one exception. Of the starting lineup from Thursday’s 3-1 Conference League qualifier in Andorra, only the goal scorer remained the same.
“Not everything was perfect. We know that!”
The pattern of play in the city derby, which was accompanied by the use of flares, remained the same in the second half. The hosts spent almost the entire time chasing the ball, while the Rapid defense was hardly ever tested. Adamsen doubled the lead on his second attempt (54'), and Moulaye Haidara sealed the victory with the goal that made it 3-0 (65'). A backheel goal by Ercan Kara was disallowed for offside (89').
“Our goal was to score an early goal here on the artificial turf. We didn’t manage to do that. The goal just before halftime was the one that broke the ice,” said Rapid defender Jannes Horn on ORF. “We created a few chances; not everything was perfect. We know that.”
