FC Bayern have gained a huge advantage in the German summit clash with Leverkusen on the European soccer stage. The Munich side won the first leg of their Champions League last 16 tie at home to Bayer 3-0 on Tuesday evening, with Harry Kane scoring a brace. 

Bayern - with Konrad Laimer in the starting eleven - got off to a brilliant start against the German champions in front of 75,000 spectators, with Kane heading in a sharp cross from Michael Olise for an early lead (9'). Leverkusen, who had not been beaten in their last six meetings with FCB, also proved vulnerable in the following minutes.

Jamal Musiala headed against the visitors' crossbar after a corner kick (22'). After the break, a gift from the visitors made it 2:0: A Kimmich cross was deflected away by goalkeeper Matej Kovar at the feet of Musiala, who effortlessly dusted it off (54').

Bayern goalkeeper Manuel Neuer was then forced off injured in his 150th CL match. The 21-year-old Jonas Urbig thus unexpectedly made his CL debut (58'). Coach Xabi Alonso's side were unable to take advantage of this, with Nordi Mukiele instead seeing yellow for a second foul (62').

Outnumbered 
Outnumbered, Bayer weakened themselves further, Edmond Tapsoba upended Kane in the penalty area and the Englishman converted the penalty safely (75'). Bayern now travel to the Rhine next Tuesday with a big cushion.
