Trump wants to fire all federal prosecutors from the Biden era

US President Donald Trump has announced that he has ordered the dismissal of all remaining US federal prosecutors appointed by Joe Biden. Under his Democratic predecessor, the Department of Justice had been "politicized like never before" over the past four years, Trump explained.

Trump made the statement on Tuesday on his online platform Truth Social. "We must 'clean up' immediately and restore trust," Trump explained. America's "golden age" must have "a fair justice system", he continued, adding: "That starts today."

Charges against Trump probably reason for measure
Trump and his fellow Republicans accuse the government of former President Biden of misusing the Department of Justice for political purposes. Trump is referring in particular to the investigations and charges brought against him in recent years, including his role in the storming of the Capitol in January 2021.

Department of Justice has dismissed numerous civil servants since Trump took office
Since Trump's inauguration, the Department of Justice has dismissed a number of officials involved in the prosecution of the Republican, including employees of the special prosecutor appointed against Trump, Jack Smith. Smith, who had investigated Trump in two federal cases, had already left the Justice Department in January.

Federal prosecutors are the government's top law enforcement officials in each district. They formally report to the Department of Justice. In total, there are 93 such federal prosecutors - one for each of the country's 94 federal judicial districts. Two districts share one federal prosecutor.
