On Sunday afternoon, a 43-year-old man attacked a young woman (19) with a knife in Lower Saxony. She was critically injured and taken to hospital.

The incident occurred at around 5.15 p.m. in the area of the train station in the municipality of Hodenhagen. The German stabbed the 19-year-old several times, the police reported. He was already known to the authorities and was arrested at the scene.

The background was initially unclear. A police spokesman told Bild that the perpetrator and victim probably did not know each other. The station was temporarily closed for the investigation and rail traffic on the line between Hanover and Soltau was also stopped.
