Firebug (45) now faces three years in prison

Last year, a 45-year-old Pole with a blood alcohol level of 2.2 per mille set fire to a van and caused property damage amounting to around 70,000 euros. The firebug now tried to fight the three-year prison sentence.

In mid-April, a van suddenly burst into flames on a company site in Innsbruck and literally exploded. As the vehicle was only 30 centimeters away from the building, it also suffered considerable damage. It quickly became clear: it was arson! A Pole (45), whose burnt identity card was later discovered in the rubble, was finally arrested.

I had nothing whatsoever to do with the fire.

The man had only come to Tyrol on the night of the fire, chose the company premises as a place to sleep and then consumed a lot of beer and vodka. "I had absolutely nothing to do with the fire", he vehemently denied the crime in front of the Innsbruck regional court in August. Nevertheless, the Pole was sentenced to three years in prison.

Sentence was confirmed
Before the Higher Regional Court, the 45-year-old now wanted to force a reduction in his sentence or even - as suggested by his defense lawyer - get away with a partial prison sentence. However, due to three relevant previous convictions, the previous sentence was upheld.
