Drug driver has never had a driver’s license

On Monday evening, a 31-year-old driver from Linz ended what must have been years of illegal driving. The driver had never had a driver's license and was stopped by police officers because of his conspicuous driving. The man was also under the influence of drugs and had cannabis in the car.

On Monday at 8.40 pm, police officers stopped a car driver in Nöstlbach, municipality of St. Marien, on the Nettingsdorfer-Landesstraße due to his conspicuous driving. During the subsequent driver and vehicle check, the initially unknown driver was unable to produce a driver's license. As he made several false statements when his identity was checked, he was threatened with arrest.

Alcohol test was negative
Only then did the man, a 31-year-old from Linz, give his details and also stated that he had never been in possession of a driving license.
A breathalyzer test carried out was negative. As the man from Linz showed clear symptoms of possible impairment due to addictive substances, he was asked to undergo a clinical examination.

Several charges follow
The 31-year-old was accompanied by a 29-year-old unemployed Cameroonian national from Vienna, and the police were also able to detect a distinct smell of narcotics from inside the car. During the search of the car, around 50 grams of herbal cannabis were found and provisionally seized.

Both men were taken to Neuhofen/Krems police station. There, the 31-year-old confessed to possession of the seized narcotics and regular use of narcotics. During the clinical examination carried out by a doctor, the 31-year-old was found to be unfit to drive. Charges will follow.
