Icy circular path became a trap for a hiker

The path around the Almsee lake became a trap for a female hiker. She slipped on the completely icy section and suffered serious injuries. Rescuing her became a challenge for the mountain rescue team in order to avoid slipping or falling off the path with the mountain stretcher.

Rain and frost had turned the path on the eastern shore of the Almsee near Grünau into a skating rink. The 56-year-old from Eferding slipped after she had already been walking for half an hour. Standing up was no longer an option, she had badly injured her hip and thigh.

Everything slowly, very slowly
Mountain rescuers set out on foot and with the rescue quad. The seriously injured woman was hoisted onto a mountain stretcher, provided with a warm blanket and then, while being constantly secured - the helpers were in danger of slipping off together with the stretcher - brought to the point where she could be loaded onto the quad bike.

Slowly, very slowly, so as not to cause an accident on the icy path, the rescuers drove with the 56-year-old to the Seehaus, where the Red Cross was already waiting.
