Seriously injured: 11-year-old hit by car

A tragic accident took place in Unterweng in the municipality of Radenthein (Carinthia) on Monday afternoon. On his way home from school, an eleven-year-old boy ran across the road and was hit by a car. The rescue helicopter flew the seriously injured boy to Villach Regional Hospital. 

The brother and sister, an eleven-year-old schoolboy and his younger sister (9), were driving along Millstätter Straße (B98) in Unterweng at around 13:55 on Monday. At the same time, a 64-year-old man from the district of Villach Land was also driving on the B98.

The children's mother was also there in her car to pick up the children and give them a lift. "When the boy saw his mother, he ran across the road, apparently without paying attention to the traffic. Despite immediately initiating emergency braking, the child was hit by the car of the approaching 64-year-old and thrown to the ground," the police report. 

The pupil sustained serious injuries in the accident. The emergency doctor and Radenthein ambulance rushed to the scene of the accident, where the boy received initial treatment. He was then flown to Villach Regional Hospital by the Alpin 1 rescue helicopter.
